Melbourne-based creatives Jacquelyn Stephens and Greg Elms are proud to exhibit their latest works at Sofitel Melbourne On Collins through Above & Below. Journey through intricate underwater worlds and the vast, painterly landscapes of Victoria’s salt lakes—two perspectives that celebrate the beauty of the natural world through photography and painting.
From 5 December 2024 | Level 35, Atrium Gallery
Stephens, who has been exhibiting her artworks since completing her BFA in Fine Art in 1996, draws inspiration from the unseen and imagined, bringing microscopic and aquatic realms to life on canvas. Influenced by her deep connection to water and nature, her vibrant works evoke memories of snorkeling and rock-pooling along Victoria’s coastline. Through fluid forms and textures, Stephen’s art merges science, imagination, and the vitality of marine environments.
Forging a career in both commercial and fine art photography, Elms has exhibited artworks in numerous solo and group shows, and his commercial imagery has been used in advertising, graphic design, books and magazines. Capturing the striking beauty of Victoria’s salt lakes from above, Elms transforms transient landscapes into epic abstractions. His vivid photographs reveal algae-tinted brines, cracked salt beds, and the artistry of nature, celebrating the connection between art and science.
Together, their art invites viewers to explore unseen environments, connecting science, nature, and the sublime beauty of life both above and below the surface.
